Show Rules

SHOW RULES
Unless stated otherwise, all exhibits are judged in line with the
rules and guidance set out in the current version of “The Horticultural Show Handbook – The Official RHS Guide to organising, judging and competing in a show“.

  1. Entrance fee in each Class is 30p for members and 50p for
    non-members.
  2. Entry forms and fees should be delivered to the Show Secretary not later than 1.00pm on the Friday preceding the day of the Show. Forms can also be emailed (by same deadline) to: diggerkettle@icloud.com, and fees will be payable on arrival for staging on Show Day.
  3. Show entries are to be staged between 9.00-10.30am on the
    morning of the Show at the Show venue.
  4. Entries must be the property of the exhibitor, and have been
    owned by him/her for not less than three months before the Show.
  5. Two or more persons may not exhibit separately in the same
    Class from the same garden.
  6. No exhibitor may make more than one entry in any one Class.
  7. Bikini (show) vases are available during the staging times and are preferred for all relevant Classes. All carriers in which exhibits are taken to Shows must be taken away before judging starts. Clear food covers will be provided at all Shows.
  8. All exhibits should be named where possible. Exhibits named
    incorrectly will not be disqualified. However, judges will take account of correctness and clearness in naming when considering exhibits in close competition.
  9. Where phrase ‘with foliage’ is used, it means foliage of that plant only.
  10. In all cases where cut material is shown, all stems must reach the water in the vase or other container.
  11. Only officially appointed Stewards and elected Officers of the Society are allowed in the exhibition hall from commencement of judging until judging is completed.
  12. Judges have the power to award prizes, additional prizes or highly commend, or to withhold prizes in the event of lack of merit of entries in any Class(es).
  13. Cash prizes are awarded to winners in each Class as follows:
    1st £1.00, 2nd 60p, 3rd 40p.
  14. Points are awarded to winners in each Class as follows:
    1st 4 points, 2nd 3 points, 3rd 2 points, 4th 1 point.
  15. Shows will be open to the public from 1.30pm.
  16. Prizes will be presented from 3.00pm on Show days.
  17. After judging has taken place no exhibit or part of any exhibit may be altered or removed until the end of the Show, except with
    special permission of the Show Secretary.
  18. All exhibits, personal property etc shall be at personal risk of
    exhibitors, and the Society shall not be liable for compensation for
    any loss or damage caused. If, for any reason, a Show is not held,
    no exhibitor shall have any claim on the Society.
  19. Judges’ decisions on relative merits of exhibits shall be final.
  20. All exhibits will be staged in accordance with the instructions
    of the Stewards, who may move them at their discretion.
  21. Cups and Trophies are to held for one year, and returned to the Show Secretary one week before the relevant Show.
  22. Stalks to remain on all fruit and vegetables, as per Schedule. Please contact the Show Secretary with any classification queries
